Latest technologies

In the field of environmental protection and remediation of ecological damages, we are engaged in the development of new modern processes and technologies that use the latest knowledge in the field, and at the same time, we cooperate intensively with leading universities in the Czech Republic and abroad.

We use new methods such as nano-iron applications, membrane technologies, biological treatment systems and others. Our team of experts is involved in the remediation of Ostrava lagoons, the DIAMO sites in Stráž pod Ralskem and Dolní Rožínka, the galvanizing plant of the former Jihlavan plant, among others.

Diffusion reactive barriers using nano-iron (DIFBAR)

Diffusion geochemical barriers are a promising protective method suitable for replacing operationally unreliable hydraulic barriers. The innovation of our solution also lies in the use of the latest materials, in this case, microFe and nanoFe. The DIFBAR has considerable application potential as a suitable containment element to prevent contamination from escaping outside the remediated area until the contaminated area is remediated.

We are developing new reaction feeds based on a combination of different sized zero-valent iron particles tailored to the specific conditions of the site.

Using electricity to remediate sites contaminated with organic matter (ELSANO)

The ELSANO method is based on the application of electric current and is ideal for the remediation of rock environments contaminated with organic substances, especially aliphatic chlorinated hydrocarbons. The application of a DC electric current to the rock environment in a system of parallel boreholes creates a homogeneous electric field into which chlorinated hydrocarbons enter and their concentration decreases due to the ongoing dechlorination.

The technology is particularly suitable for sites that are difficult to remediate using other methods.

In situ remediation technologies supported by an electric field

Innovative patented technology based on the synergistic effect of DC electric current with reducing and oxidizing agents.

The supply of electrons in the form of direct current is cheaper than the supply of electrons by oxidation-reduction processes. The research, application, and optimization of this method to the conditions of a given rock environment leads to a significant reduction in the cost of remediation work in the affected area.

Landfill leachate treatment using membrane technologies and biological pre-treatment systems

The existing technology of municipal wastewater treatment plants is not able to fully eliminate pollution caused by excessive landfill leachate. WWTPs can only dilute this pollution and discharge it into watercourses.

The method of landfill leachate treatment using combined membrane technology with the use of biological pre-treatment systems minimizes landfill leachate pollution while achieving maximum protection of surface and groundwater.

Environmentally friendly nanotechnologies and biotechnologies for water and soil treatment

We use innovative methods targeted at the treatment of contaminated water and soil. The solutions we develop use new nanotechnology and biotechnology to provide advanced treatment of a wide range of waters, including groundwater, industrial and surface waters, and to remove pollutants including organic and inorganic compounds, heavy metals, endocrine disruptors, pesticides, and microbial contamination.

In the projects, we first verify the effectiveness of each technology in simulated conditions. This is followed by pilot testing and finally by full-scale deployment on a wide range of waters, sludges, and soils.

Advanced real-time control and monitoring of remediation technologies (RealControl)

The main contribution of the project is the development of an advanced remediation technology management system, the main features of which are real-time monitoring and control of remediation technologies. Existing systems make very limited use of basic control and monitoring of the remediation process. They are only limited to setting up partial interventions such as backfilling of water, application of reagents etc., and occasional monitoring. The goal of the project is to define more easily measurable rock environment parameters and their correlation with chemical parameters of the environment and to use their monitoring for effective remediation management. This will save time and resources. This saving of resources will reduce the overall cost of site remediation by up to tens of percent.

The automated monitoring system and modelling of groundwater pollution from non-point industrial sources (SAMMWAP)

Modern monitoring system for continuous contactless monitoring of the impact of industrial activities on the quality and quantity of groundwater resources used for drinking water supply.

The developed technology meets the conditions of the Industry 4.0 initiative by its orientation toward the Internet of Things (IoT).

The monitoring system is based on the principles of AWSN (Adaptive Wireless Sensor Network). Each sensor unit is an autonomous entity for its monitoring and network communication. The communication uses the LORAWAN/Sigfox telecommunication network.

The direct application in production processes is at the level of real-time monitoring of the pollution status and autonomous activation of relevant control and warning mechanisms.

Remote monitoring system for water quality and operation of ultrasonic units

System for remote online monitoring of surface water quality and operation of the ultrasonic unit.

The system has been developed for synergistic use with other technologies, e.g. ultrasonic unit used for the elimination of cyanobacteria and algae (solved within the project of elimination of cyanobacteria and algae on the water reservoir of Lake Hamer). The monitoring device communicated online with the users via a website, where it was possible to check the current measured values and the functionality of the technology, including the monitoring of cyanobacteria and algae.

Chemical treatment plant Stráž pod Ralskem - elimination of surface areas after deep mining

MEGA has been a specialist in the remediation of the consequences of chemical mining of uranium ore since 1996 when the destruction of chemical mines in the Czech Republic began. In the context of the destruction of the chemical treatment plant in Stráž pod Ralskem, MEGA acted as "construction manager". This represented the technical supervision of the demolition works and the financial control of the reported works.

In total, the following has been removed:

  • 302 668 t of material contaminated with radionuclides,
  • 260 t of material contaminated with radionuclides and oil,
  • 10.5 t of materials contaminated with radionuclides and PCBs.
  • Total costs were CZK 490 million excluding VAT.

NIKM 2 - National inventorying of contaminated sites second stage

The company MEGA a.s., Division of ecological services, participates in the project of National inventorying of contaminated sites, Stage 2, which is one of the main priorities of the Ministry of the Environment. It is a nationally and internationally monitored project.

The aim of the project is to prepare a comprehensive database of the Contaminated Sites Register of the Ministry of the Environment, including an evaluation of priorities for the removal of old ecological burdens. The project results are also applicable to the business sector and public information services. Within the project, we will apply our more than 30 years of experience working on projects related to landscape remediation and reclamation associated with the extraction of raw materials, disposal of landfills, or revitalization of the otherwise affected environment.

Iron nanoparticles clean phreatic water

Iron nanoparticles clean phreatic water

A patented application of iron nanoparticles creates a reactive diffusion barrier, that reacts with contaminants in the soil and deep in the ground and neutralizes them.

The suspended iron nanoparticles are injected into the ground and direct current is applied in a long term. That initiates the reaction deep underground and solves contamination without exhaustive and sometimes impossible digging and excavation.
