BioLNG is produced from a renewable resource - biogas - by anaerobic digestion, where organic waste is broken down by bacteria in absence of oxygen. Biogas is derived from animal manure and sewage sludge or green waste. Therefore, it is classified as a biofuel.

BioLNG vs LNG

BioLNG is a highly sustainable version of liquefied natural gas (LNG) with almost identical composition. LNG is composed of about 95% methane, whereas BioLNG consists of approximately 99.8% methane.

How does it work

Thanks to long-term research in the field of membrane gas separation and close cooperation with our suppliers, we have developed a modular system for upgrading biogas and its cooling required for liquefaction.

Biogas contains 30 – 50% CO₂, H₂S, and other critical compounds that need to be removed and upgraded to high-quality biomethane before it can be liquefied to BioLNG at -162 ℃. There are two main steps:

The first step is to rid the inlet gas of impurities. MEGA supplies membrane technology to remove carbon dioxide and any water, tailored to each customer. Depending on the customer's needs, methane recovery is up to 99.5%.

The second step is liquefaction. The key to this step is the integration of the cryogenerator into a complete turnkey technology for the final customer.
