Electrodialysis is an electric field gradient driven process enabling separation of mineral matters from feed solutions while moving dissociated ions through ion-permselective membranes and forming two different flows - desalted flow called diluate and a concentrated flow called concentrate.

Food Processing & Beverage Industry

Whey is a by-product of cheese production. It has a high mineral content of 8-10 % in TDS which results in low sensoric properties and overall low value of whey. Demineralization by electrodialysis turns the low value whey into a sweet substance ready for internal reuse or up to pharmeceutical quality for use in infant nutrition.

Avoid precipitation of tartrate salts into the final product. Electrodialysis technology removes part of tartrates in energy efficient way without addition of chemicals in very short time. Alcohol, sugars content and taste don´t change.

Fine Chemicals Industry

Organic acids are usually produced using fermentation. Heterogenous EDBM RALEX® technology provides viable alternative to the fermentation. Alongside the production the feed is acidified and salts are removed. Up to 95% conversion is achievable with EDBM only, final 5 % are usually polished using IEX.
