Biohydrogen production from biomethane using steam reforming. A reforming reaction takes place:
CH4+H2O = CO+3H2.

The produced Syngas continues to react on another catalytic bed, where Water Gas Shift reaction takes place:
CO+H2O= H2+CO2

Like hydrogen, it has a high energy content (120-142.9 MJ/kg) and is also a clean energy carrier, making it a suitable replacement for fossil fuels.

The production of biohydrogen offers an environmentally friendly alternative to the commercial methods currently used to produce hydrogen, as it does not require such a large amount of energy to produce. But most importantly, biohydrogen production uses organic waste.
